Gopi Vaid: Graduation Project

This document is a concise report of the sixteen-week Graduation Project that I underwent at Gopi Vaid. The Graduation Project is a 16-week industry-based project. During this period, we as students develop collections of fabrics for apparel or home fashion, based on specific briefs provided by sponsoring companies (here, Gopi Vaid). Here are snapshots from my Final Graduation Project Showcase Day.

Gopi Vaid is a fashion house established in 2003. Gopi Vaidya, co-founder of label Gopi Vaid was born in Ahmedabad in a family with a renowned background in textile making. She grew up in an environment where her toys would be handblocks and pigment. This is where she learned to appreciate Indian arts & crafts.

Let's embark on the journey of how it all began—starting with research methodology, followed by the design process, leading to the first prêt-wear collection, and culminating in the second festive wear collection.

1. Research Methodology

Primary and Secondary data analysis- includes about brand's collections', competitor brands', themes, colour trends and silhouette analysis.

2. Design Process

This design process is the 'concept-to-creation' of the digital prints common to both collections (prêt & festive). It starts with research and mood boards, followed by sketching, fabric selection, and prototyping. After refining through sampling and feedback, the final pieces are produced and brought to life.

Then, I started exploring motifs, hand-drawn and digital, including all nature and garden elements, keeping the storyboard in mind.

Experimented with various print layouts after finalizing the motifs. Showcased below are 16 master and coordinate print designs, selected from the many explorations undertaken.

The final step involved experimenting with the scale of the finalized prints and selecting a single master print and a placement print scale (process of one scaling shown below) to be used across both collections.
